The first few moons of Duskheart's life were as good as any cat could ask for. He had a loving mother, who favored him the most out of her small litter of three, and he was a total mama's boy. This wasn't to last, however, as shortly after he and his siblings switched from nursing to meat, she vanished without a trace, gone out to hunt and never came back. Once his siblings figured this out, they ostracized him, chasing him out of the small territory their mother had claimed and into the terror of the unknown stone forest. He spent many sunups and sundowns alone and too scared to do much beyond breathing and blinking before he was found and kidnapped by a group of twolegs who took him to a big stone cage with lots of little cages inside where the smells burned his nose and eyes and the cats around him yowled insults and misery at him. He was housed with a kind old she-cat who had mothered many kits of her own and told him all about where he was and what would happen to him. He would be poked and the skin of his neck would feel really cold, but this would make it so he couldn't get sick and then once he was a little older they would take him to be altered so he couldn't have kits. Another cat, somewhere above them, warned him to get out before he was altered; it would make him fat, lazy, and even more useless than he already was. The older tom he couldn't see explained how to get out, he'd done it before. The cages were easy enough to unlatch and the twolegs always left the solid-water open. He waited until night time, and made his escape just as planned, the tom and she-cat hot on his heels as all three ran for freedom. Once out, they went their seperate ways, the two older cats turning to go further into the stone forest while Dusk fled for the mountains in the distance. He ran until the next sunup, until his paws were sore and he was soaked to the bone after nearly being swept away by river after river. He was finally free, finally free, he kept telling himself this as he stumbled into a clearing and down the mouth of a large burrow, falling onto a soft bed of pine needles and sighing as sleep claimed him. When he woke, his eyes blinked open only to find a very stern tomcat glaring at him, tail lashing. "Who-" the tom couldn't even finish his question before Dusk fell at his paws, trembling and mewling pathetically. The tom, who he later learned to be called Coldstar, took pity on him and offered him a place in his clan, which Dusk - or rather, Duskheart, accepted immediately.

Over time, Duskheart has grown to think very little of himself. As such, he's quiet - rarely speaks unless spoken to and if the response requires more than a simple nod or shake of his head - and is constantly second guessing himself and missing opportunities to better himself because he just doesn't think himself able or worthy. When he does socialize, it's usually in the form of self-depreciating jokes or, as is most often the case, hiding his own feelings and remorse by attempting to cheer up or advise other cats with their issues.

relations: [ friends: ♦, enemies: ♠ ]
♦ Coldstar, ever-grateful to the leader for taking him in rather than chasing him off, tries to make him proud though learning to be a warrior wasn't easy on either of them. ♦ Thunderpaw, a rather neutral relationship, neither particularly likes or dislikes the other. she brings him plump, delicious fish or a bright feather or scrap of soft twoleg thing for his nest in attempts to cheer him up and he appreciates the gesture. he's tried to help with her training but she's much too energetic and brash for him. ♦ Dovewhisper, the two have an easy, comfortable friendship where silence is never awkward. they spend a lot of time together, though they've never shown any romantic interest. |
